Next time you want to Dodge & Burn in Photoshop try this for fine-tipped control.
Add a new layer
Edit>Fill>50% gray
In the layers palette, change the blending mode to Soft Light
use a nice soft brush at 5-10% opacity with Black to Darken and White to lighten
