13 March 2014

This Friday at KPS .....

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome three of its members, David Thomas, Del Hannington LRPS and Kevin Scott LRPS, as their speakers on Friday 14th March giving their illustrated talk entitled Perspectives.

David has a wide gamut of photographic interests with a leaning towards abstraction. He has made preparation for this evening an opportunity to work on a fresh project. His aim is to make powerful images from the everyday subjects which can easily be overlooked.

David says, "The results are inevitably personal but if they are appreciated by others then that's a bonus!"

Del’s interest in photography was sparked by the birth of his first child. He has been making images ever since and in 2010 decided to make it a priority in his life and fully realise his photographic potential.

His talk this evening follows his quest for photographic perfection, using the RPS distinction framework as signposts to his development. It will look at the success and failures along the way, and the quest for a unique style.

Kevin says, “I have been taking photographs for as long as I can remember, my first ‘serious’ work was a school assignment, a black and white series on mending a bicycle puncture! I think it was shot with a Praktica and I still have the prints somewhere.

I’m interested in fine art photography and am inspired by the potential of capturing the essence of a person, a scene or object and sharing this with others simply and directly to evoke thought and emotion.

My preferences are portraits and still life. Most recently I have been taking ‘conceptual’ images using a hybrid view camera, and exploring the use of chiaroscuro techniques to maximise the drama of the subject and to bring out the three dimensional quality of the image.”

This certainly promises to be an absolutely fascinating evening so we hope to see you there.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol  BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
