This Friday at KPS ...

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome two of our members, Adrian Herring ARPS, DPAGB and Vanessa Herring LRPS, as their speakers on Friday 20th April, who will be giving a digital image and print talk entitled From the Calm of Sri Lanka to the Frenzy of India.

Adrian and Vanessa say:  “Our talk is an attempt to show and tell you about the contrast we perceived between these two countries.

Our first visit to Sri Lanka in 2005 was during a period when the Sri Lankan Civil War had started to re-escalate, so it was not possible to visit the northern part of the island.  The end of this long conflict was declared in 2009 and tourists were able to visit the area without a military presence in 2014.  This meant we were fortunate to visit Jaffna and Trincomalee in the spring of 2016.  The impact of the 25 plus year war was evident and, whilst difficult to capture photographically, we hope to give a glimpse of the impact on the people.  We were able to travel independently with Vanessa’s cousins who live in Sri Lanka and have also frequently visited India over a number of years.  We consequently had benefit of their knowledge when touring around many high spots, including the Golden Triangle.

We consider ourselves generalist photographers but try to capture something a little bit different as well as making a record of what draws our eyes.  We particularly like to tell a story through our photography.

This promises to be a fascinating evening so we hope to see you there.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays from 7.30pm to around 9.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
