This Friday at KPS ...

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome Stephen Dury from Dury & Tippett and Dean Wood and Bob Rocca from Smart Computers as their speakers on Friday 8th September. Dury & Tippett and Smart Computers are two of our programme advertisers so do come along and support them.

Stephen Dury describes his talk as follows:  What you see is what you get?  Is that true? In terms of photography, this is not necessarily the case.

A goal for many photographers is to create an image which represents a scene viewed by the human eye. The eye is a very mediocre optical device which does not ever form a complete ‘snapshot’, but creates a continuous stream of ever changing images and will refocus instantly as required.

I will discuss, in non-technical terms, the role played by the eye in creating stunning images.  I will look at some of the differences and similarities between the eye and the camera and I will incorporate some examples which will challenge our view of what we see. Some pictures from photographers with eyesight difficulties will show that this does not necessarily limit what we can produce.

As an optician I am excited by some new developments in eye care and will end by looking at how the very latest optical developments from Zeiss can improve defective eyesight.
Is what you see what you get?”

Our other speaker, Dean Wood, is from Smart Computers UK Limited, Bristol’s leading ndependent computer specialist with shops in Keynsham, Kingswood and Westbury-on-Trym.

Dean says: “Whatever you need, from a simple service through to a custom built high specification photographic machine, our friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff are there for you to provide sound advice and a range of value-for-money options.

New or second user, off-the-shelf or bespoke, repair or upgrade you’ll find the same great service at any of our locations.

Thanks to the super high-resolution sensors we see today in digital cameras, a fast computer is absolutely essential for an efficient post-processing workflow. If a few years back a standard PC or a mid-range laptop were good enough for post-processing images, modern files can put a huge burden on processing power and make a high-end machine seem obsolete. Tonight we aim to discuss specific photographic upgrades and offer advice on your photo-editing needs.”

This evening presents us with the opportunity of hearing two particularly relevant talks for us as photographers and one which should be extremely interesting so we hope to see you there.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays from 7.30pm to around 9.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
