This Friday at KPS ...

On 3rd February, Kingswood Photographic Society has its first Studio Evening of the year.  Once again, one of our members, Mike Martin will be leading our Studio Evenings.  Mike has secured a top model (literally) for our studio evening – Izabela Kowalewska.  Izabela is a finalist of Top Model UK 2017 competition in ‘over 25s’ category.

The Top Model UK (www.topmodeluk.com) professional model search competition is now in its 10th hugely successful year and is the sister competition to Top Model Worldwide. The current 2017 competitions will reach their climax at the Hilton London Metropole Grand Finals on March 17th and 18th. Over 4,000 entries have been received and with over 160 finalists from across the UK, and internationally, competing in six main show categories for the Worldwide and UK titles.

The Top Model competitions are not beauty pageants but pride themselves on their pure model search ethos, all of the top prizes and opportunities for the finalists and award winners are focused on the fashion and model industries. The Finalist selections and the eventual awards are all decided by industry experts with the finalists walking in a professionally produced international runway show finals.  There is also a public vote award.

Mike says: “I’m sure you’ll all want to join me in wishing Izabela every success – I know she would REALLY appreciate it if you could please support her in her efforts to win the TOP MODEL 2017 PUBLIC VOTE AWARD for her category (voting ends 15th March) and raise AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE for the wonderful CHILDREN with CANCER UK charity in the process.  EVERY PENNY is hugely appreciated and makes a genuine difference!”

Kingswood PS meet Fridays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ. Visitors are welcome to join us and the cost for non-members on a Studio Night is £5.00.

Vanessa says: "You will recall that in January 2016, Mike demonstrated some ways of using studio flash and speed lights and we learned about: fill, key, broad, accent, rim, Rembrandt and feathered lighting. Mike also explained the meaning of the following terms: soft light, hard light, high key, low key and inverse square law.

Tonight will give us the opportunity of practising some of these techniques. One key practice which I learnt was the importance of not using my ‘on camera flash’ whilst someone else was using the hot shoe connection linked to the studio lights because they interfere with each other.

During the evening, if you have any questions, seek out Mike or another member who is an experienced studio worker because they will be only too happy to share their knowledge and to help you take improved studio shots.
