An exhibition at the British Library sheds light on the first era of photography …

This was a time when its practitioners were often scientists in whose work we now see the roots of an artform.

Points of View: Capturing the 19th Century in Photographs runs from 30th October 2009 to 7th March 2010, at the PACCAR Gallery at the British Library, London NW1. Admission free. These diverse photographs are an important archive of historic images, which trace the development of the medium from its beginnings in 1839 to the early 1900s.
