John says: “I have been an avid photographer since my early teens working in my homemade darkroom. With all of the usual constraints on my time that goes along with buying a house , working full time and having children I managed to get to my early forties and realised that I could also have time for something I enjoyed and so I found myself joining my local camera club. For one members’ evening I was asked to do a ten minute stint and I showed an AV of Talgarth Asylum which received really great feedback and was the start of my path towards my first photographic distinction, an AWPF.
That
was in 2010 and since then I have achieved an ARPS, a DPAGB and EFIAP as well
as various international salon acceptances and awards but I still class myself
as an amateur and I am always learning. I don't have a genre, I like things
that grab my attention or spark an interest or that I find a challenge. I get a
lot of enjoyment and satisfaction from what I do and there is a sense of
achievement when you are recognised by any photographic body for your work. I
look forward to the opportunity to share my experiences with you and hopefully
some of you will be inspired to give it ago. Without encouragement from the
people around me I would never have entered that first assessment so I relish
the possibility of getting even one person to take that first step towards
having their work recognised by others.
My
talk on the night will be in two halves the first being prints and the second
will be AV.”
This promises to be a fascinating evening so we hope to
see you there.
