This Friday at KPS .....

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome Martin Fry FRPS, APAGB and Brian Swinyard MA(Photo), ARPS, EFIAP/b, DPAGB, BPE3*, PPSA who will be presenting the 1st Cheltenham International Salon of Photography (CISP) on Friday 10th January.

Brian says, "Cheltenham Camera Club is proud of being the seventh oldest camera club in Great Britain. It was founded in 1865 in the home of Dr E.T Wilson, father of Edward Wilson who perished with Captain Scott in the Antarctic. Therefore, you can imagine our delight to receive Patronage from FIAP, PSA and RPS for our first Salon which meant that we could offer 90 Awards globally plus 5 Awards for Cheltenham Camera Club members.

The Salon includes five Sections; Colour, Monochrome, Experimental, Natural History and Travel. In order to appeal to the widest photographic palette, Awards were given not only for each Section (ie Winner, Runner-Up, Judges' Choices) but also for Landscape, Action, Transport, Still-Life, Portrait, Architecture, Sport, Pattern, Creative, Abstract, Visual Story, Wildlife, Macro, Insect, Bird In Flight, City Life, Human Interaction, Man/Woman At Work and Photo-Journalism. This seemed to be the correct approach as the response was overwhelming with 10,200 entries received from photographers in over 60 countries.

The three Judges were Margaret Salisbury FRPS MFIAP FIPF APAGB, Pete McCloskey FRPS APAGB and Graham Hodgkiss ARPS MPAGB AFIAP APAGB. It proved to be a mammoth task for the Judges to reduce the total number of entries down to a more manageable total of 2,600 which equates to around 25% Acceptance rate.

In preparing this Salon Showing, a total of 600 images (including Award Winners) were chosen to provide an overall flavour of the entries received."

This promises to be an absolutely excellent evening so we hope to see you there.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol  BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
