12 January 2013

This Friday at KPS .....

... 18 January has, regrettably, been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

It is hoped that George Reekie BPE5*, who was due to be the speaker, giving an illustrated talk, From Japan to Norton, will be re-scheduled for later on in the year.

For a taster of what to expect at some future date .....

George says: “For me, photography is all about capturing the moment and its ability to freeze action. My main interest is in action photography, through sport, wildlife, landscape and people. I rarely take a picture of nothing happening.

I value being an amateur because that gives me the freedom to take what I want and not be constrained by commercial factors. Photography has taken me to all kinds of amazing places, from the Serengeti to the Bass Rock, from Donington Park to the West Somerset Railway, from continent to continent. It has given me incredible memories and taken me to some amazing places.

I do enjoy competitive photography because that gives me the motivation to try to achieve that special picture. It is not about winning competitions but achieving the “wow” response from the viewer. However the odd win does come nicely. Over the years, there have been a couple of times when I have become frustrated in not achieving what I wanted and thought of giving up photography, but it is this quest for the perfect picture, whatever that is, that keeps me motivated. The only problem is that you can never get that perfect picture, because there is always a better one around the corner!

If you want to see any of my work I have galleries on the Taunton Camera Club website and the f8 Image Group website.”

Kingswood PS meet Fridays at 7.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol  BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
