This Friday at KPS ...

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome back Margaret Salisbury FRPS, MFIAP, FIPF, APAGB, as their speaker on Friday 14 September, giving an illustrated talk.

Margaret says: “In an attempt to be able to take pictures of my children I went to evening class to learn first how to put a film in a camera and then what “all the dials were for”.  I found it very confusing but when I saw a print developed I was “hooked” on this magical appearance of an image and decided this “painting with light” was for me.  I had until then painted but photography became the art form I had always looked for. Seven years later having become the first person to gain two Fellowships I was teaching that Evening Class and continued to do so for 23 years.

My photography started with monochrome landscapes of my native North Wales but branched out to seeing and photographing the “bizarre” and expressing what I saw in many different subjects. Although I did do some colour slides negative and Cibachrome prints I preferred monochrome until I went “digital” now doing both mono and colour.  Ten years ago we started travelling and enjoying capturing images of what I see and experience in many parts of the world it has been my privilege to visit.

Sponsored by Fotospeed I am able to use many different papers and experiment with different effects.   I have been involved with and interested in mentoring people to improve their photography and to enable them to gain Distinctions.  I am currently the Chairman of the Disabled Photographers Society L, A and F Distinction Panel and run a group in Leyland for those wanting to aim for distinctions from many of the Societies who give awards and also Moderate and Mark for the Digital Imaging Course of the Open University.

My current talk is my approach to photographing many aspects of the countries I have visited eg. Landscape, shop windows, places, events and of course my main interest that of the “people”.

As you can tell, this promises to be an absolutely fascinating evening so we hope to see you there.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays at 7.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol  BS30 5JJ.  Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
