This Friday at KPS ...

Kingswood Photographic Society is absolutely delighted to welcome Duncan McEwan for the first time, as their speaker on Friday 23rd March, giving his illustrated talk, Scotland – Land of Landscapes.

Duncan says,“I have been photographing the Scottish landscape for over 40 years and remain as enthusiastic as ever about the opportunities it offers. Having started travelling abroad in 2005, I am more convinced than ever that Scotland is second to none when it comes to landscape photography.

Landscape and natural history photography are often regarded as distinct disciplines, pursued by different photographers. I perceive them as being very much interlinked, almost at opposite ends of a spectrum, with the landscape being as much a part of the natural world as the organisms that colonise it. A landscape photographer who does not carry a macro lens can be missing a great many opportunities.

The search for new locations, or finding new angles on familiar ones, provides constant motivation. Strong compositions, mood and interesting lighting are always uppermost in my mind. In landscape photography, there is only so much that can be planned - so often it is the unexpected that provides the most exciting moments and having an open-minded approach can be highly rewarding and avoids disappointments.”

This promises to be an absolutely superb evening so we hope to see you there. For a taster of some of the treats that are in store, pop on to
Duncan's website.

Kingswood PS meet Fridays at 7.30pm for 7.45pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ. Visitors are most welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
