This Friday at KPS ...

We are particularly delighted that a Kingswood Photographic Society member, Mike Challenger ARPS, has agreed to give an illustrated talk which he has entitled, Last of the Summer Wine.

Mike says, “I am a collector at heart and always want to possess the things that attract me. In a way photography allows me to take things home to keep. Many years ago I collected butterflies but when they started to get scarce I began to photograph them instead and my photography grew from there. It was with a natural history panel of wild orchids that I obtained my ARPS.

My interest in natural history gave me a love of wild places which is why I am attracted again and again to the great American West where true wilderness still exists but alongside comfortable motels for my old bones, recognisable food, and a form of English is spoken.

To me photography is not an art but a technical exercise and I take trouble to produce the best quality prints I can with the best equipment I can afford. I suppose my criteria is not, will it win a competition or can I produce something that the judges wont understand so they give it a salon medal, but, will it look good on the wall.

I admire the great landscape photographers, study their techniques and their printing and try to emulate them and am not ashamed to make use of plug ins and algorithms invented by others.

There is lot of satisfaction in making a nice print.”

We are certainly in for a superb evening, so see you there.Visitors are always very welcome and the cost for this evening is £3.00.
Kingswood PS meets on Fridays at 7.30pm for 7.45pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ
