Why is it that so many people put their cameras away during the winter months, when some of the best opportunities are available? As you will have seen, the hoar frost on Tuesday and Wednesday last week was a gift, as have been some of the foggy days. After this Friday’s Christmas Party, you will have two weeks off to take photos for next season. Family obviously comes first but, after that, think of what else you can do.
I hope you will agree that we are finishing what was a superb year’s programme, with too many great evenings to mention in full. Highlights for me certainly included the two Steves, Le Prevost and Smith, whilst we had a real treat from our very own Shirley Britton.

Next year we start with a bang with Barbie Lindsay with a talk, which should be visually challenging. This evening is then followed, a couple of weeks later, by Peter Basterfield, whose talk was called off last year due to the weather. Let’s hope it is kinder this year, as Peter is a leading light both in the RPS Nature Group and the RSPB. After that, we have the return of a number of old favourites and quite a few newcomers, together with talks by some of our own members, mixed in with a number of practical evenings that are proving to be very popular. Altogether, it looks certain to be another promising season.
I look forward to seeing you at next Friday’s party – remember to bring some very different prints for our Match-A-Print team competition. If you cannot come, please have a great Christmas and New Year.
