Saturday 4 September KPS Outing to The Great Dorset Steam Fair

As you all know, the plan for our Annual Outing this year is to go to The Great Dorset Steam Fair at Blandford, Dorset.

This is without doubt the premier Steam Fair in the country with an enormous amount going on.  The reason we have chosen the Saturday rather than the usual Sunday for the outing is that the Fair closes at 3.00pm on Sunday, whereas it is open from 8.00am to Midnight on the Saturday.

Vanessa and I have never been but we understand that one of the attractions of the midnight finish is that you get to see the steam engines in night light.  Overall, it represents a superb photographic opportunity.  Needless to say it will be a challenge, as there could be a lot of people there but we are sure it will be worthwhile.

In addition to the steam exhibits, there will be entertainment and music on stages, displays of vintage and classic vehicles and rural displays.

The cost of getting in is £16 for an adult and £14 for an OAP.  If you arrive after 5.00pm you get in for £7.00.  It is possible to get in for a couple of pounds less by booking through a Tourist Information Centre.  We do not plan to do this just in case the weather is foul.  Needless to say, we will be keeping an eye on the weather forecast with the hope it will be good.  If it is expected to be dreadful, we will naturally cancel plans to go.  That said, steam engines in mud could make good pictures!

Our aim will be to get there as early as possible and stay late, probably taking a picnic with us either for lunch or dinner.  If you are planning to go, can you please let us know and we can talk about how to meet up during the day, as it rather looks as if it could be quite easy to miss each other.  I look forward to hearing from those of you who would like to come.

With regards,
