Momma Finally Took My Kodachrome Away

ByeByeKodachromeMy favourite film - gone.

After 74 years Kodachrome is to be made no more. Kodachrome will now enter the category of ‘cryogenic’ film: you know - the stuff that you only ever find in photographers fridges (…the smell of Scotch 1000 out of a newly opened box should be hitting you just about now)

I’m going to miss it.

Nothing ever got close to the warm sunny feeling of a Kodachrome slide. You could put a warm filter on your camera with Velvia or whatever loaded but you never got anywhere near that unique colour palette.

What surprises me however is that Kodak fail to capitalize on the affection and brand loyalty of Kodachrome users. I’ve never seen a promotion for a Kodachrome 25 photoshop action, never seen an offer of a Kodak filter plug-in, never received an email asking if I wanted to buy tie-in merchandise (yes I would wear a Kodachrome sweatshirt). Zip.

One of business’ great opportunities, missed.

O well. On with the motley.
