Friday Night is Trophy Night

You'll have seen from the club programme that on Friday 28th, we have our final competition night of the year when the FT and AP trophies are awarded for the best three related works.

Ever wondered about the origins of the trophies? Here's our President, John Long's insight into the history of these prestigious awards:

"Frank Thomas was one of the early members, was Secretary for many years then President.  When I joined in 1955, he was the one I aimed to beat, and in my third year I won the main Exhibition Trophy - Success!).

Anyway, he left for New Zealand in 1965, (poor health - warmer climes) but gave a trophy for the set of three related prints - it has been fought for since 1966. Won last year by Mike Challenger.

The AP Trophy stands for 'Andy and Pauline'  and is the trophy for projected slides, (now DPIC), presented by a past member Andy Zena and his wife Pauline in about 1974  - as they were slide workers.  This will be the first year when we won't have to struggle with three projectors - hurrah!!!"

So there you are. Friday represents your chance of winning awards that the club has presented for over 50 and 30 years respectively. Personally, I think these are the toughest. Producing 3 high quality related works is always a challenge ... particularly when the standard of competition is so high.
